Watermelons’ waste rinds Utilization as Bio Shampoo in order to produce Eco Friendly Shampoo (ISPO 2012)

Realized or not waste products as human activities are going on everyday gets greater and bigger and become complicated problems to tackle. One problem that could be so dangerous for our water environment is water pollution that come from chemical materials in which take role as waste product of synthetic shampoo that we use everyday. And its been known widely that those chemical waste materials which polute water environment will eventually screw natural cycle of water. To make it more complicated, synthetic shampoo is not as safe as you think it might be, because chemical materials that compose it, has bad affect to hair and scalp such as irritation, hair-fall and dandruff that these days has been become concerning problem to 36 % of 601 Indonesian women who are dealing with hair-fall problem (Anonym,2011). Later we have found that watermelons’ rinds in which as we know it is only some form of useless waste products from watermelons contain some most important matter to overcome those problems. Our problem statements in this research including how is the nutritional value within watermelons waste rinds bio shampoo and how is the quality and character of that shampoo thus fulfill the criteria of a good shampoo. And the aim of this project are to conclude nutritional value within this bio shampoo and to conclude quality and character of this bio shampoo which can bring goods to either environment, hair and scalp. Thus, can impact to greener environment. Not just that, this bio shampoo is eligible in three keys of protecting our earth, Reuse-Reduce-Recycle, a global action to prevent earth from getting its worse condition. With experimental method of research. Variable which are studied in this research are materials of bio shampoo and nutrition values composed in bio shampoo. This research were doing at surroundings of SMA Semesta and chemistry organic laboratory of Universitas Negeri Semarang form October until December 2011. Available data was analyzed using AAS (Atomic Absorbent Spectrophotometer) then, analyzed with deductive method. And the result shows Potassium (K) 362 ppm; Natrium (Na) 93.25 ppm; Magnesium (Mg) 3.726 ppm; Zinc (Zn) 0.055 ppm; Ferum (Fe) 0.05 ppm. From the result above and based on the result that is gotten from correspondent that gave good response toward bio shampoo from watermelons’rinds it can be concluded that bio shampoo from watermelons’ rinds is very potential and fulfill the criteria of good shampoo.
